NOvember 2018
Hawkes Bay Polo Club Newsletter. No. 1. For 2018
Welcome everyone to the 2018 polo season. This is going to be an extremely busy season with a full polo calendar and great social gatherings organized. We wish you an enjoyable and successful time.
Weather for preseason chukkas has been kind and for those who have been able to make it, a busy time getting the feel of swinging a mallet, new hard hats, their mounts and in some unfortunate cases - the ground. The horses are getting fitter and are really starting to look good.
Awesome working bee to get the boards up/ general tidy up. Great team effort with many hands making light work of it. The grounds are also looking their best.
Players and grooms are trickling in from around the world.
Opening day on Saturday 24th November was a fun day with 10 chukkas played.
Next weekend we are going to Wanstead to play the Stratford cup. This HB vs Wanstead competition has not been played for a while so it’ll be interesting to see the final format the club captains come up with.
Whatever the format or result Wansted fixtures never disappoint and it’ll be a great opportunity to enjoy their legendary hospitality in their upgraded club house.
8-9th Dec is the Wine Country tournament. Fred’s on the social rampage and has drawn from his vast partying experience and considerable generosity to instigate quite the social occasion, and along with the clubs faithful long time sponsors we have some new sponsors ably mustered by Pete and Bridget for what looks to be an 8 team 6 goal competition. With players and teams coming from all over the North Island
Hats off to these guys and their helpers as they have organized what is promising to be a great weekend. Saturday night is the HB Polo Party for players ,partners and grooms (and us!) This is $15 per head payable on the night with a cash bar operating. Finals day lunch in the VIP marquee on the Sunday for sponsors and for those lucky enough to secure tickets.
This is building up to be quite the party weekend, luncheon tickets are $75.00/ per head and guests will be welcomed with greeting drinks, and can supplement their meal with wine and refreshments from the cash bar.
Tickets are selling quickly so ring Bridget on 0276111306 to secure tickets.
All in all HB Polo Club is in great shape with the grounds looking magnificent.
A big thanks to the ongoing dedication of the long time members who have maintained a great club foundation, so that with resurgent numbers new members have a great platform to consider all these opportunities to enjoy the future of this fantastic old club.
We are also looking to expand non player membership or friends of the club so if you know of anyone who may wish to be included please put their names forward.
